chrome or not

Post by alvinator »

I took my tailgate handle assembly down to have it chromed for the truck and also had the 2 side tailgate latch brackets done. So, i was thinking, since this truck will be a cruiser and weekend driver, should I chrome the tailgate supports and tailgate latches? or would the chrome come off pretty quick?

i wouldn't chrome them personally. they were never chromed from the factory on any truck I have seen. They may be like that for a reason. Insteda of using bulky hinges, why not adapt a cable like the new new f150 uses on its gate?

chromed latch brackets? Seems those would get scratched up pretty quickly.

On the handle, at least, I'd go with stainless steel. It looks really nice, is shiny, but is a bit more durable.

parts that are used like that including hood hinges are chromed because of the wear issue with them. paint will not hold up as long as chrome will. i heard this on barret jackson one night.

so, Fordman, were they implying that chrome would hold up good for wear? Me thinks I might have to go to the chrome shop then.

Chrome will hold up much longer than paint. It is a plating and is very hard. Paint will just scrape off.

price out chroming the handle and you will buy a aftermarket stainless in stead. :2cents: and likely the better way to

when it comes to chrome there is good, better and best. how much a persons willing to spend is the question, and whats underneath.
