Removing Fenders

Post by BiggDogg »

Hi I have a 1970 F250 project truck. I want to replace the fender due to accident damage, and found a decent pair at a local salvage yard. Just curious how difficult they are to remove. Does the door need to be removed first to get to the fender bolts? Thanks.

They are not that difficult to remove and no the door doesn't have to be removed.

...and no the door doesn't have to be removed.
But... there is a bolt that is easy to miss. You get to it through the cab access hole between the door hinge mounts.

That bolt is kind of a pain in the ars. Here is a pic of where it is. I used a 1/2" socket on it and it took forever, but I won lol.

i hate that bolt. but i have a solution to that. drill a hole in the kick panel large enough the get a socket through. then when you are finished put one of those rubber cap plugs in the hole you drilled. to hide you cheat.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

under the fender in the front there is a hole that might help you fish it out with. i thinnk its suppose to be the drain hole for the cowl.

I just finished pulling the front clip off mine, that damn bolt was a pain alright. I dropped my rachet and socket down in the hole the first time, had to get a roll of duct tape and a screwdriver and went fishing.
I wonder how hard it will be to get it back in?

Success has been achieved! We got two fenders from the local junk yard. I was only planning to get one because my driver's side was damaged, but the junk yard fenders were in great shape-straight and less rust than mine, so I got em both. We did drop a ratchet and a socket down in there, but thanks to you guys sharing your stories, we had a magnet wand with us to fish em out. She's coming together now... two-tone blue fenders, white hood, and brown everywhere else. :D
