Saturday I am going to get a decent grill off of a 68. The truck is off to the crusher
Anything I should make sure I take with me to get it off in one piece?
Mike
Just be careful not to break off any mounting tabs. They are extremely brittle. You must have a lot pf patience otherwise something may get broke. The bots are usually rusted right to the clips, leaving the grille right in the middle of all the wrenching. This is how the mounting tabs can be damaged. If possible, undo the bolts from the inner fenders, and then just unbolt the upper valance panel (the one the lower hood latch clicks into), and remove it still attached to the grille. Lay it on the ground and remove it. This will save you a lot of frustration, and save you the skin on your knuckles. You may find a zip cut handy as well, should you run into some really stubborn bolts
A 1/2" wobble socket and about a one foot extension is pretty handy for the bolts that are at the top inside of the fender.
And I second what fordtruckparts said about the valance panel. Buy it if you have to and take it off when you're not in a hurry . The frozen up bolts and j clips will tear up the grille.
