another welding question
ok, so ive finally decided that i want shielding gas, because im sick and tired of brushing and hammering to clean everything. on the hobart forum keith give me has a welding 101 page. it talks about for steel use argon 75% and CO2 25%, im just wondering what if i use just argon on steel, since i have problems with burn threw on body panels, and argon doesnt look like it penetrates as deep as argon and CO2 mix. any ideas?
thanks
thanks

Flux core welding penetrates more then when you use a shielding gas, and argon is a hotter weld then C25 (75% argon - 25% Co2). You will be much happyier on mild steel sheetmetal with C25.

re: another welding question
thanks randle, i just thought since aluminum is a softer metal and pure argon is used on aluminum, i just thought it might be good for steel. maybe its because i have flux core that im burning threw, i should go pick up some different wire then too. again thanks

Yea, you want to use solid wire, and not flux cored with gas. For sheet metal I would use .023-.025, for heavier stuff use .030-.035. The gas will help to cool the weld, as well as provide protection from oxygen, so it will help to reduce burn throughs.

re: another welding question
You will have a much nicer weld with less burn thru with solid wire and C25. Also go to a the smaller .023 wire.

I use the C25 and .025 wire and no real problems with burning through unless the sheetmetal is paper thin. Not one single burn through with putting in my bed side the other day.
