RE: $50 Paint Job

Post by lightning_msd »

So i have a couple of things i would like to experiment this on... i have the paint, i have the sand paper, and i have the rollers and sponges... that being said, does anyone know of a clearcoat that can be rolled on?? i dont exactly like the idea of just paint, on my 90 someone painted it black just paint, and trying to polish that is a nightmare not to mention all of the rust thats forming. i would like a clear coat i can roll on, sand down, then buff it to almost showroom shine, any ideas anyone? thanks in advance  :fr:

The way I understand it, the roll-on Rustoleum method doesn't require a clearcoat. Everyone who's tried this says you can easily sand it down and polish it to a very glossy finish, and report that a clearcoat is basically just wasting money. Besides, not clearcoating it will allow for quick as-needed touchups in the future.

ya i see what your saying keith, i just have a lot more experience with buffing clearcoat more than paint. ive buffed my bike i painted, and my 90 thats just paint, i think that the clearcoat would bring out more shine than paint.

Why not just try it without the clearcoat first, to see if you think you'd actually want/need it? Wouldn't be difficult to scuff it up and clearcoat it later should you decide to do so?

I'm just going by what those who have actually done this paint method have said repeatedly...I have no practical experience to offer, so take this advice FWIW. :o

I did the $50 pant job on my truck. It buffed out real nice. I wouldn't worry about clearcoating it.
