Re-paint
OK, in less than a year I'm a bumpside 4 star. I didn't buy the truck right compared to most of you and with the motor rebuild I'm past being able to consider getting my money back out of it. No problem...I bought it cause I liked it.
I'm committed to using it as a daily driver as much as possible which means exposure to "liquid sunshine" here in Florida. There are a few minor beginnings of rust that, if addressed this year, would probably take this truck years down the road. It's in really good shape overall.
It's got good enough paint on it now that most folks just think it's a nice looking truck - but I know that the bed/fender seam is covered in filler, and the drip rail cancer is just beginning. If it were your bump and you did not have the necessary paint/body skills or knowledge, AND you could make it work out with some financial planning - would you just have it stripped, fixed, and re-painted?
Thanks for any advice.

re: Re-paint
if you're going to use it as a daily driver i'm not so sure i'd worry too much about a rapaint. if your anything like me paranoia will over come you and that dd will find itself hiding in the garage most of the time. a good repaint is a big chunk of change and you will start to worry about just about every situation you put the truck into. just my

I would get some sand paper, wire wheel, and some POR and get the places clean, prepped and covered. That will buy you some time. But if you can afford for a all over repaint then by all means go for it.

re: Re-paint
Thanks guys. Now that this is becoming my sickne...um..interest , I can't stand the thought of watching the rust slowly pop out the filled areas. If I let it get too far I know I'll get bummed and do something stupid.
Far as I can tell this is the orginal color scheme and I like it alot. I kinda like the idea of getting those areas fixed and then just re-painting the green areas.
Thanks for the tips and encouragement.

re: Re-paint
Pictures usually look better than they actually are, but it looks like it is in fine shape. Still it would probably be difficult to match doing a partial repair.
If you have the money to have a proper all over refinish done, that is what I would do, keep in mind doing it right with stripping and two tone and all the attendant prep work is likely to cost 4000-6000.00. If you can't (or don't want to) spend that kind of money, having the spots properly repaired before they spread is the best option.
That color combination is my favorite, I would certainly spend the money myself...

re: Re-paint
You could always try the $50 dollar paint job. If it don't work, then you can pay someone $4000.00 to paint it, but I would try the $50 first. Good luck and the truck is worth the money to get it right.

Re: re: Re-paint
This is fine but keep in mind that it just might cost you more to have the $50 job stripped off so it don't cause them probs with the job they are doing. I have run into this so many times in the shop. A customer brings a car in that has rattle can or some other funky paint on it that has to be taken off just to start with. This will add to the cost of the prep work and cost in the end.trukcrazy wrote:You could always try the $50 dollar paint job. re: Re-paint
i agree that color scheme is really nice. any idea what that color is accenting the white? it looks like a smokey green or gray color from the pic.

re: Re-paint
cjs - if the color code from the tag calls for "Boxwood" green. Kind of a sage green. I think it's the original scheme just repainted.
