Beltline Trim

Post by poleman »

I have a 68 and I want to replace a piece of trim on the bed. In the Carpenter catalog, the 68 is show to have 1-1/2" wide moulding. Mine measures 1-3/8" on the outside. I am suspicious of the sizing, because I bought the 68 plastic clips to attach the front fender trim and they were too big. I found the one remaining plastic clip on the old fender & it had a C7 part number on it. Is it possible I need to order the 67 trim piece to make it match?

This is an early run in 68, my grandpa bought it in Dec. of 67. Since it's been in the family all its life; I know the trim has never been replaced.

What's the serial number of your truck? The narrow '67 moldings were also used on '68 trucks with serial numbers up to #C56,001.

That was fast! You caught me editing my post to put a little more info in. Is the serial number part of the VIN? If so I can find it without going outside.
Thanks.

Yes, the last 6 digits of the VIN. It'll start with a letter followed by 5 numbers.

The truck's unit number is C56976.
The part number on the plastic trim retainer is C7TB 8129318B if that means anything at all.

Well, that PN isn't really the best indicator, since it COULD have been engineered in '67 for the '68 trucks...or it COULD be the '67 narrow style.

Since your truck is an early '68, and since you say the '68 clips are too large, I'd bet you do have the narrow '67 style.

That's what I kind of figured; especially since they want $12 more for the 67 size.
Thanks for the help.
