it was $125 to have the hood dipped..they can pretty much dip anything...ive even seen them dip the entire body of a mustang before...

Interesting... might be worth doing to my tailgate, too...

For that matter, wish I could just have the entire cab dipped. :D

It is a great idea, but you have to think this stuff takes everything out. Sealer, primers in places that you can never reach.

true, but its really the only way to ensure youre starting with a good platform. otherwise you could potentially have rust or other issues down the road...dipping the hood worked pretty well for us. Shortly after i got it back from the dippers i got it surfaced and primed and put it up for storage until the truck was ready, and i havent had any issues with it. Just got it back on the truck for some final fitting before going to paint and its still looking good, after about a year of sitting

Someone already mentioned spray cans of ZeroRust - and that is something I am planning to try for the nooks and crannies under the hood. I sent an email to ZeroRust a while back looking for a local dealer. There was not one, but they referred me to www.restorick.com. Here is the url to the paints:

To keep bare metal from rusting, some restorers use Ospho (See http://www.ospho.com/ ). I've seen ospho treated bare metal sit out for literally years in high-humidity storage without any hint of rust.

I'm not arguing that fact that it is probably the best way to go. For a truck that will never see rain with the exceptions of getting caught in it that is the only way to go, but for a truck that will be drove no matter what the weather I would think twice.
