Door Problem

Post by Joshpow »

My 67 has a problem with a sprung door top. Some monkey has tried to hang off the west coast style mirrors and sprung the top of the door about 3/4 of an inch away from the truck. It aligns fine up until the top two inches, but there is a gap at the front of the door you can see through. Does anyone know an option other than door replacement. I know that the adjustment is close enough that there should be no gap. I can sight across the door and see the bends.

The window frames can be tweeked alittle. Close the door against a wood block and put some pressure against the top of the frame.
But first I would try bringing the door out at the bottom. Loosen the lower hinge and move it out. The top hinge is the pivot. A little out at the bottom will move the top in quite a bit.
Open and close the door gently after you adjust, if it binds with the fender it will chip the paint.

Building on what Lobuck said. If you can remove the front fender you can adjust the door while it's in the closed postion. This may help.

If you still have wind noise after all this, you can cut a slit in your wetherstrip and fill int with something to bring it out closer to the door!
I just did one for my friends truck! we used co-ax cable (tv cable) and it cleared up the noise! you cant look at it and tell anything has been done!

I'll try to spring the door top a little. I have the door bottom moved out as far as I can. If I go farther, it will sit farther out than the fender. Thanks for the responses. If anyone else has ideas I'm still open for more suggestions.

The problem isnt wind noise. It is a gap and the doo sits too far out past the windshield pillar so water runs in if it rains hard. There is a huge gap, so I dont like the idea of thickening the gasket that much.
