Tow Hooks

Post by alvinator »

Not sure if this is the right place or not...

My 69 truck had to be towed a couple of times and since I have the 68 still striped down, I was wondering if anyone has welded/bolted on a step of tow hooks to the front of the frame. In case you have to be towed and don't want to scratch the bumper? If so, what did you get and how heavy a set?

I know a guy who put a piece of 1/2 plate steel with a runner gusset down the center inbetween his front frame horns to mount his tow hooks to.
They come out just under his front bumper and look really nice.
He tied it all togehter in the front to share the pull stress between the frame rails.
It was done on a 77' short box that he uses for a wheeler. I don't see why it wouldn't work for a bump.

That Oval shaped hole on the cross member on the drivers side... I placed a hook in there to get my truck out of the mud and it got ripped out so just for future reference don't do that.

DO NOT do that.

i use bus hooks myself, mounted on the frame.get them off a bus in the junkyard.
there are oval shaped holes in the frame for t-hooks that towtruck operators use for attaching the proper chain to , these are not for pulling you out of a big stuck situation but will work fine if attached correctly for a normal pull.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.
