welding stainless steel?

anybody know how about doing this? or what type of welder to use? i was thinking TIG, but i wasnt sure, i just want to weld a tip on the end of an antenna im making. i dont have a tig, i only have a mig and an arc.

you can do it with a mig, you just have to get the SS wire and different sheilding gas. You can do it with nornal steel, but the welds will NOT be SS

Converting your mig is a spendy deal for welding the tip of an antenna on. Go buy a piece or two of 1/16" 309L stainless rod and stick it. Makes prettier welds than stainless mig anyway.

ya its just for a tip i made to put it on, i was almost thinking just sodering it on, :lol:

Stainless does not solder in the usual sense. You will need some specialty solder $$$ to get the job done.

Can you make the ball an interference fit to the antenna shaft? JB weld?

thats the thing, its not a bulb type dealy thinger majig, i made a lightning bolt to put on the tip. i did drill a hole, but i drilled a bit to big so it just slides off. jb weld is probably the way to go, never considered that, i have a few tubes around here somewhere. thanks 250 :thup:
