Anyone use bigger wheel cyl up front?

Post by nevrenufhp »

I got my drum brakes all jazzed up & new hardware. Now there's lots of pedal left to work with, so I was thinking of trying a set of bigger wheel cyls up front. Stock is 1& 1/16th", and I was thinking of jumping to 1&3/16, or 1& 1/4. Has this already been beaten down the forums?

I'm reviving my own thread.
I did it, and it's a wonderful (and cost effective)alternate to piecing together a disc setup. It's a direct bolt in too. My first test drive was great, even if it wasnt adjusted perfectly yet. It makes the front to rear bias a whole lot better! Whil doing it, might as well double check the brake hoses. These cylinders have a tubing thread on them, so you wont need to use the copper washers. There's a slight taper on the end of the hose that accepts either type. If you get a new hose, it will have a better flare than OEM. The new ones are 1 & 3/16", and the part #'s are from NAPA, and made by United:
37250(right), & 37251(left)
They run about $16 a piece & well worth it. I dont know what applications they fit though. Other parts stores can cross reference them.

only thing i have to say is related to the drums, hope they are full thickness as if they are near the max.diameter you risk cracking them from the extra pressure.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

I doubt the little increase in pressure will crack it. It's not power assist of any kind. Other than that, they're fairly new & only turned once to make sure they were true.
