Anybody used POR Glisten PC?

Post by 69rangerman »

I've been messin around with the mouldings, taking the anodization off with Keiths lye trick and polishing. Yesterday after 3Ming a piece I hit it with some 000 steel wool and got this real nice satin finish that hid 90% of the nicks etc and looked cool (to me) to boot.

ANYhoo...I'm picking up some glisten pc from por tomorrow as it is formulated for applying over metals of all types/finishes and won't flake or yellow. Thought I'd ask if anybody has used it before I use it.

Thanks

Well I thought I was going to try it this weekend but after an email to POR I found out I have to get 2 other products. Here's the email response from POR:

Subject: RE: Glisten pc question

You should clean with Marine Clean 10 parts water one part Marine Clean
and rinse well with water. Then apply our AP120 metal prep and rinse
off with water after only one minute. When completely dry you would
apply two coats of our Glisten PC. Glisten PC comes in a semi-gloss
finish too.

I'll photobucket some pics when I try it.

That's standard for POR products, clean with Marine Clean and then use their metal prep solution.

Neither are that expensive, and if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time. Definitely share some pics when you have something to show.

Yeah, I was relieved to hear the prices on the metal ready and prep...the glisten and hardener set me on my can. 50 bucks! Maybe there's a decoder ring or gold plated action figure inside.

Sorry guys, pretty bad week for the family.

Well here's the short story, I ordered the glisten PC went to pick it up and they didn't have the prep stuff so I told them to call me when it was in. Left the parking lot and that's when the engine went. Never got a chance to work on the trim.

That was October! I'll be trying the Glisten out in a few weeks after things calm down a bit. I'll post back on this topic when I do.

Thanks.

Check out a product called Evershield at www.aircraftfinishing.com I've used it and it's awesome... it sounds expensive at first, but when you look at how much coverage you get, it's not bad at all.
