Suspension question

Post by Jwelch »

1970 F-100 2WD Custom. My question is on the rear suspension, it has leaf springs, shocks and the strange thing, coil springs. These are not coil over shocks, the are separate from the shocks sitting right on top of the axle next to the leafs. Is this something that a previous owner added or was it an option that came with the truck?

that has to be some sort of add on but i dont know that its a dealer thing. you probably just need new springs or those rearched.

My grandfather added some load springs to his old flatbed. Sounds like that is what they are. The truck doesn't actually hit them until there is a very heavy load in the bed.

You can buy those at most parts stores. It is an aftermarket set up.

Yeah my Father in Laws 67 has them on there. THey are just something that his Dad found somewhere and put on there. They helped a little, but not much.

overload springs. the coil ones are easy to install as you dont have to take anything apart but they also are not as good as the leaf style that go on top of the leaf springs.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.
