Replacing Top of Cab

Almost sounds better to get a new cab with decent everything and swap the vintag for the original off the old door.
Could probably do that for 100 or 200 for the cab. swap it all yourself with a friends help and a cherry picker. Or an aframe.

Yeah I can see the Sentimental side of it. Was just offering a more pocket book friendly option.

You know, as long as you're cutting the entire roof off and replacing it, it really wouldn't be THAT much more extra work to just leave a few inches off the posts when you weld it back together. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Cyque, that seems like a great price for all of that work. Do us a favor and make sure you photograph the whole process. A lot of us would be very interested in seeing this done. Thanks.

Just replacing the roof is not as difficult as it appears, yeah, there are 1.2 million spotwelds to drill out, but bodywork is all about patience. The truck looks like it took a real hard beating and replacing the entire cab rear along with the roof may be the best bet though.
I have replaced sheetmetal at factory seams on a larger scale than a bumpside roof. It's tedious work, but it is very possible.
Anything that can be built can be un-built.
I will be replacing just the roof panel on my '70 this summer. I will be purchasing a plasma cutter and a real nice spot welder with multiple tong sets for the job. These tools alone will cost more than twice what you've been quoted to fix your cab, I'm just not one to let anyone else work on my truck!
I have to say I'm glad the truck is getting fixed instead of just going to scrap. My '70 has a similiar background and I would never consider replacing the cab.

im the same way my cab is shot but i just cant bare to replace it i know its just a truck but ive had it 32 yrs and i got alot of memories in thatr old cab ........
