anyone know of any decent painters in or around the kc area? i want to repaint my 68, but there's no way i'm using the last guy that painted for me. he did an awsome job, but it was way too much $$$.
btw, if anyone wants to chime in on how much they think a quality repaint with all the prep and minimal bodywork would cost i'd appreciate your thoughts.

Ezer,...I'm no painter, nor do I live near KC,but one of the things that could drive the price of the paint job up in a hurry is what you refer to as "minimum body work"....I would highly recommend a "guide coat",where, over the primer they fog on a coat of black primer and lightly sand it to find the indentations in the body...I had a '70 repainted, which I thought had only one dent when I brought it to the painter...After the guide coat,he pointed out about 20 rock and door dings, that would have stuck out like a sore thumb with the shiny new paint...About the same time I had my truck painted,a gal in my neighborhood was proudly showing off her '77 Ranchero's new $800 paint job---no body work included...Under the stark light of the sun, moon or neon,it looked like the painter shot her car about a hundred times on both sides with a b-b gun before applying the paint...I thought it was a horrible waste of $800...
Also, you have to decide if you want single stage paint or clearcoat...Peronally,if you prefer the more factory look,I'd go with single-stage,which should cost you less...My brother had a bone stock '72 repainted the original olive green with a clearcoat, and while it was an excellent paint job,it just looked awkward---way to candy-appley for a stock-looking vintage truck...

This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Belive me don't do maaco unless this care is leaving. Take your time there's still folks out there with skills needing money. I waited for almost two years and finnaly found the man for the job. Wish your were her in CA, there's plenty of full restoration shops waiting to make money.

The shop you used does very nice work but IMO for what they did for you it was way out of line as far as price. I may be wrong saying that since i havent done any body work since 2002. I do have a friend up there i will call him and see if he knows anyone to contact and to see if i can give you his number so you can call him. Well i tried to call him as i am posting this and his number has changed. Now i have to go to his forum and post to get his new number.
