Rust Converter...

Post by layedout72 »

I went to wal-mart to get some carpet and razor blades for my speaker box, but as we all know, when you go to wal-mart you buy twice of what you went to get. So after spending 25 bucks, instead of 10, I come home and spray some of this rust conveter on the truck where the fenders will hide. It says its black primer when dried, but yet it SPRAYS clear. anyone ever use anything like this before? Im hoping it works, it looks like it is....

It hasnt dried fully yet so I can see the spots where it is working. I will take pictured of the other side for you guys.

I did not like it. I had a slight bit of surface rust on an inner fender(which this is supposed to be perfect for). Well it dried black like it says and I scuffed it and put a skim coat of filler over it and the filler peeled off in one big sheet, I had to start over and take it back down to bare metal like I should have done in the first place.

Yup, Por15's gotta be the best. I just bought a tube of the Por15 "Porpatch" which comes out of the tube like soft butter. You can smear it on small patches and it looks like the paint, and you can also build in voids with it somewhat. I used it on some pinhole rust-throughs - on both sides (that should hold me for awhile). Plus you can recap it, and it seems to be staying fresh and workable, unlike the Por15 paint once the can is opened.

I use One Step from Bondo. You have to get it from an auto parts store
It sprays clear, and dries black. Use several light coats. Do NOT spray it on in one heavy coat or it will lift off. When used as directed, it's a great product.

normally yeah, but this was pitted so I couldn't get to all the rust and it was so thin I was afraid to use a grinder on it to get any bite. I ended up tossing it anyway because it was just too far gone.
