Old tear drop
Any body know were you can get fiberglass teardrop scoops like they had on the old thunderbolts and litewieght galaxies. I think it would be awsome on a 67 to 72 ford truck!! brett

I've heard the mustang scoop off of a stang with a 427 in it would work with slight modification.

Barry,I remember as a kid building a model of 'Ohio' George Montgomery's "Malco Gasser"...It was a '66 'Stang fastback with a 427 SOHC motor and a teardrop hoodscoop...It may have been a 'one of a kind'....
Brett,I agree,I think a teardrop scoop would look awesome...

re: Old tear drop
Ok Joe, I meant something you or I could buy off the showroom floor.
But you're right, Ford supplied the fiberglass body but I thought it was a '67. The Ohio George story is interesting. He was already running a blown 427 Cammer in his '33 Willys. But the power output was catching up with the ol' coupe's aerodynamics which was later confirmed in Ford's wind tunnel. My understanding is, he modified and extended the gasser's frame while Ford threw in the slick fiberglass body and the Malco Gasser Mustang was born.

What a cool pic,Barry...Yeah,I don't think you could get one of those 'stangs off the showroom floor,...and the wheelie bars probably would have been an additional option...Back in the day I thought the Malco Gasser was the baddest-lookin' sumbitch on the dragstrip...

re: Old tear drop
Nope, no production 427's in the Mustang. Ford went so far as to key up a W code option for the '68 'Stang but none were ever built according to Kevin Marti VIN records. Don't trust a book, research it with some MCA judges and the Mustang & Shelby registrys. NHRA racing classifications for the Mustang show the 390 as the biggest engine until the 428CJ.
There were a few '65 and '66 Mustang race cars modified under contract by Dearborn Steel Tubing. Some received 427 wedge engines but most got the SOHC version. Those don't count, not factory production.
Ford stuffed the 427 mostly in the Galaxie and Fairlane to get the production #'s for sanctioned racing. I believe the list goes like this:
63-67 full size Ford
63-64 full size Mercury
64 Fairlane Thunderbolt, 64 Comet AFX
66-67 Fairlane
67-67 Comet
65-67 Shelby Cobra
68 Cougar GTE
I don't know if you can count the '67 Shelby GT500 Super Snake as it was a one-off Shelby build:
