Suspension/Steering/Brakes

Post by Bob 68 »

I am putting power steering in my 68 F250 2wd with parts from a ford truck salvage yard. They pulled the parts and everything but the left side engine perch looks right. I took the old perch out and see the holes to put the new perch in, the top holes are correct but the bottom holes don't line up and with the perch in place the hole for the motor mount stud is 2 inches back from original location. The new perch also seems to have a more severe angle to it than the pictures I've seen on this site. If they took it out of a 73-79 could that be the difference? I called them but they don't remember if the perch came from the same truck as the other parts.

Hi and :wel: to the site!

Can you post a pic of the new perch, to see if its the right one for ya?

The '73-up pieces are the same as ours. Of course, I'm sure you know that the top bolts for the PS engine stand go into the forward set of holes, not the back ones, right? The bottom bolts use the same holes as the MS stand.

Here is a picture of the manual steering perch removed from the truck, and the power steering perch they gave me from the junkyard. I don't believe it is a correct fit. Click on the images to enlarge.

The reason that PS perch doesn't fit right is cause it's not an FE perch....that's one from a 302. Since the 302 wasn't available until late-'69, your '68 frame won't be drilled for it. Take it back and get the right one.

Thanks for all the replies and information on my motor perch problem. I went to the salvage yard today and swapped the 302 perch they gave me for the correct FE perch i needed. This is a great site, it's nice to have a forum that really helps. Thanks again, Bob 68
