Trim around windshield installation

Post by dcbullet »

I have read on another board :shh: that you should first install the trim on the rubber gasket and them install the windshield.

Well, assuming this is correct, I have just 5-7 inches of the trim that has come out of its groove on the top drivers side of the windshield. I've tried a few ways to get it back in, but no success yet, plus I don't want to break the trim.

Anyone else gotten the trim back on with the windshield still in? How?

In trying to install my trim into the mounted gasket I was able to get some of it in. I tried soapy water, then every lubricant I could think of. The best on (I am opening myself here for lots of abuse but in the interest of the group...) is KY Jelly!!!

Are you sliding the trim in from one side or are you keeping it stationary and pushing it down into the groove?

The latter. But remember, I was only partially successful. I'm thinking you can do it if you only have those five to seven inches to do.

I just started taking out my window trim and window. Sure would be nice if someone could write a how to about the window installation. I'm also having a hard time getting the trim out but I think I'll just cut the rubber out from the inside and then get the trim off.

Any advice on installing a window and trim would be great!

Have new windshield and was looking for the answer on chrome with the gasket during install - or chrome after install.

I can get the windshield in... the chrome on my 69 ranger is the question. I got all the chrome out ( undamaged :) and want to get it back in the same way LOL

Any help would be very helpful !! :hmm:

Don't do it with the trim in the rubber it'll hinder your getting the rubber in. And may even cuase damage to the rubber trim and windsheild.

Get the rubber/windsheild in then i believe you realy need a trim removal tool as it will help you put it back in also.

I imagine since they all tuck under each other at the corners you'd need to push the first couple of inches in and then get a rubber mallet and a ball pein and slow and softly nudge the chrome back in.

No, i'm sorry but you need to put the trim in the gasket before you install the window, otherwise you can't get it in.

Yes, the chrome trim must be installed first, then install the window in the truck.

Well, I put in the window with a new gasket without the trim. I did get the chrome in... I used the same rope for install, in the groove for the chrome and pull it out while pressing on the chrome. Had to start from the curved end. 4 hours of trial and error. No chrome damage and it is in. Guess I will do the rear with the chrome in!! I should have waited 24 hours for all the helpful posts. Thanks all :fr:

I did get the rear window trim in on the old ranger xlt. Of course the window/gasket was already installed. but it was missing the corner peice so i got the one peice and gently pushed it in. of course they back trim/gasket could be different.
