grille insert interchangeability

Post by snake »

I see that according to LMC, the 71 and 72 grille 'frames' are the same but they list a different part number for the 70 grille frame.

What is different about the 1970 version?

Will 1970 grille inserts work in the 71/72 grille frame??

Thanks

The '70 grille inserts are much thinner than the '71-'72 pieces, so they wouldn't be flush with the rest of the grille shell. Plus most of the mounting tabs are in different locations. You could make them work if you want to badly enough, though...but personally speaking I'd say to get the inserts which match whatever shell you have.

Here's a picture showing the difference in grille shells, provided by 4x4x4crewcab. The rear shell is the '70, the front is a '71-'72. Notice how much deeper the later version is.
