I'd just grab the steering column from the truck that donates the steering box, unless you're heading to the auto parts store for a new one.

Shortening a column can be done, but IMO it would be so much easier to pick up a junkyard column. Is your truck a automatic or 4-spd? It's been my experience that the 4-spd trucks' column housings are already shortened to work with power steering, but you'd still have to find the shorter column shaft and use it in your existing column housing.

Take a look at this page:

Just buy a rebuild kit for the box. Edelman makes them for abour 15 dollars. It's much easyer than replacing the box. Is it leaking out of the bottom?

Ok well my truck does have a four speed in it. and im going to buy a reman. box from napa and im going to try and find a tilt column if i cant just a regular shorter column and if still no luck i might have to shorten mine. so i was just wondering how hard it acually was.
And FoMoCo the reason ni dont want to go with the rebuild kit is that i usually end up haveing problems with stuff like that and i want to switch to the saginaw stlye because of the header clearence issue.
Thanks
