4X4 conversion
I have a '67 swb 2wd and Im thinking of converting it to 4X4. someone told me that he used a 4wd front end out of a '85 bronco and did not have any trouble. anyone ever heard of this?

I know the 2wd frames are different than the 4wd ones. The crossmembers are the main difference. Best bet would be to find a 67-72 4x4 fr ame and switch your body over to the 4wd frame. Thats my 2 cents. Doug

4x4 conversion seams to be a pretty popular question on this forum and the answer is always get the 4x4 frame. The 2wd and 4x4 frames are totally different animals. Anything is possible if you're a skilled fabricator, but if you're not, you will end up with a worthless hack truck in the end.

re: 4X4 conversion
From the info on this site the 73-79 4x4 has the same frame width as the 67-72. Correct me if im wrong on this keith. But this is how i took the info i have been reading on fuel tanks that will fit the 67-72.

73-79 1/2 ton 4x4's have the same rear frame spacing as the 73-79 2wd trucks. So no, you're 67-72 body won't fit a 73-79 frame very well. I see 67-72 swb 4x4's and parts all the time on craigslist locally. There was an immaculate, but disassembled for restoration 72 swb 4x4 for sale for $600 recently. It was tempting.

re: 4X4 conversion
thankyou all for the great info. But the question still remains. would an 85 bronco front end mate up? or come close?

you might have better luck asking on www.pirate4x4.com. just be prepared for the answers you get. (not a very civilized bunch there, and sometimes you gotta double-check answers to get it right)
Another site is www.fullsizebronco.com. they have a good tech area, also.
