bendix set-up

Post by ERICLDUFFEL »

I am thinking about putting a bendix power steering set-up in my 69 F-100.How reliable are the bendix systems?I have heard stories about the bendix box are bad about leaking around the seals.Let me know if anybody has had any problems with the bendix set-up. :D

Yes, the Bendix setup was only used for a couple years for several reasons. Not only are they prone to leaking at the seals, but they tend to overheat. Ford recognized these shortcomings and designed the Saginaw steering box to overcome them. If you have access to a Saginaw I'd definitely suggest using it instead, even though it means you'll have to replace the steering column. You'll be glad you did in the long run. Many folks who went with the Bendix setup because it was considered 'less work' to install actually ended up doing more work trying to get it to work reliably, and finally ended up going with the Saginaw box anyway.

Just my :2cents:
