Welded body seams?
Are there any other durable alternatives to welding the body seams? I want my truck to look good, but I am not confident enough with my welding abilities yet. I definitely want them filled. How?

You might try something like JB Weld or Liquid Metal and use it as a body filler.
If rust DID get started though, it would be a real PIA to get that stuff out.

Personally, I think if you're not going to actually weld the seam, then your best bet is to use a regular body seam filler since you'll want it to remain semi-flexible. After you run a bead down the seam, you'll could run your finger down the seam to flatten out the bead and give it a slight concave contour.

I have pondered the idea of using all metal. It is a body filler like bondo but much better for something like this. It is still sandable but a lot more durable than bondo or fiberglass.

One product you might think about trying is Metal 2 Metal, Eastwood handles it and it is made to fill seams and use were you used to use lead filler. It has aluminum and fiberglass particles mixed in it to give it more strength. I personally am going to weld mine and try to leave it a little below flush and then flush it out with Metal 2 Metal.

Re: re: Welded body seams?
That sounds ilke a good idea in that you would likely eliminate the majority of flex that might occur between the two halves. Then by using the metal to metal you could better smooth the contours together. If you end up doing it post about it. I'm not that far along yet, I want bags first and foremost :twisted:Randle wrote:One product you might think about trying is Metal 2 Metal, Eastwood handles it and it is made to fill seams and use were you used to use lead filler. Eastwood has some stuff called lab metal that is pretty sweet. I just finished welding the vertical seems in the rear part of my bed on my 68 turned out pretty cool.
