Please! Need help now w/ ps box!

Post by cghstrojan08 »

This is not a bolt on job. I am Installing a Power Steering BENDIX Box in my truck and it isn't fitting. It is a 1969 f100 3 on the tree. It is like I don't have enough room. The motor mounts aren'e in the way. The steering wheel sits about an 1 inch up and I still can't get it to fit. I have to get this truck back together today. Please help! thanks!

if your steering column isn't a powersteering column then you have to shorten your steering column.

69 F100 81' 302 / 73' fmx

I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than go driving with Kennedy

I thought it said I didn't have to shorten it since I have a Bendix power steering box

if you got the bendix it should slip right in with lots of fighting and cursing.

so are you sure you got the bendix box? A quick check would be the bendix has a big B cast on the side. the ford box doesn't

It's the bendix box. It has the Big B. I really don't know what to do and I am getting sick and tired of fighting it. I am going to try again tomorrow and if it doesn't fit, I think I am just going to put the manual back it. Also, I measured my manual box, which is 6.5 inches long, and my ps box, which is 7 inches long.

P.S. : If the cab mounts are rusted out, would that make a big difference?

:hmm: cab mounts still good? because if they are weak it could be a
little hard to get the coelum to line back up. if they are a jack the cab up and block it with a (2X4) peace of wood. between the floor board and frame should help. but you should fix the mount proper if there is a Problem.

that is the problem the coelum mounting right?

a bad cab mount will shorten the shafts length by 1" to 2" depending on how bad.

The column is in I just can't get the ps box to mount to the frame. I will try to jack it up tomorrow and see what happens.

can you get it up in there? can you get just one bolt started. what is the progress. it just won't go in? it should go in without to much hassle. just as leadfoot said a little cursing will make it fit

Tried the cursing and couldn't get it to fit. Can't even get one started. If I tried to get one started, I would strip it out. That and it would stick the steering wheel up an inch.

Get under the dash. Loose up the bolts that hold the column to the truck.
Pull it up a little bit. Now bolt the box back down. You might have to
"jiggle" a bit. The right kind of music helps. Momma in a thong might
help too. At least for me. 8)

So, I can move the whole column up? What bolts do I undo?

Theres 2 at the top where the col. bolts to the dash. The rest are down
by the pedals. Loosen them all up and you can move the whole thing
around.

When you get the box back in line it up so nothing binds and snug all
the bolts back up tight. Then it will all work nice and smooth. 8)
