Question about cab structure

Post by dotcentral »

I was looking at a 67 this weekend, and found that the brace that runs under the cab (left to right) was pretty well rusted out. It is the "U" shaped channel, about under the area where the front of the bench seat goes. About 3-4 inches were missing of the bottom piece on each side.

This is pretty flimsy looking metal to start with. Just how important is this piece? Is it to support the floor? Guess it wouldn't be to hard to patch. Or is it even really needed?

Thanks.

Yes, it's needed...it's what braces the cab floor. Since it's actually pretty common that the ends of that brace are rusted out, you can buy patch panels for them from all the normal parts sources.

Actually, they're probably the easiest to replace, since you don't really have to worry so much about appearance. :D

Thanks for the reply Keith. I was thinking it should be an easy repair, pretty well out in the open.

Just go down the road to Dennis Carpenter or National Parts Depot. Either place sell the ends for that support.
