...and I hate to disagree with you, Smokey, but the late seventies boxes are jes' a little different than the 53-72 flareside box. They are wider and have a flat top edge versus the flared top on the older boxes :)

right, that's why I said, basically the same. The fenders can still be interchanged because the differences don't affect the mounting location.

Here's a pic of my 76 (yeah it's a 76 with a 78 front end) I put 80-up fenders on it.
