Going From StyleSide to FlareSide----Same Body Mounts???

Post by Mooosman »

Hey guys,

I've been thinking pretty hard about changing the bed out on my truck from the regular shortbed to a stepside bed.

Just what exactly am I going to have to change to drop a stepside box onto my truck?

Are the body mounts the same?

Any other brackets I need to look out for?

Anything else that's bolted to the frame and is specific to the stepside?

Lastly, does anyone sell a nice wood kit and trim for the bed itself?

Other than the mounts, I'm assuming this is pretty easy. Since the fuel tank is in the cab, there's no fuel door and filler neck to worry about in the bed!

Oh, and could you guys post pics of your Flaresides? And, any bumper setups you may have seen on them?

Thanks

Nick,
Maybe wants to go FlareSide.... :hmm:

Good ideal, but you may encounter negative feedback from some here.
Seems its called a flair side and that alot of people here think they are the step children. Personally I love them, I call mine Spike, after my 7 year old said it looked like a bull dog. Big front, Small Rear.

I do not know about the conversion but you can look at my pics with the bed off and compare to yours.

The beds are fully interchangeable....no modifications needed to actually mount it on the frame.

Check out MAR-K.com for the bed wood.

Very nice truck, cathynkeith!

I especially like the slotmags, they look nice on pretty much any classic iron.

Who's steering column did you use? Was it a universal? What did you have to do to get it to fit the truck?

Thanks

Nick,

Ididit, they have drop in, I am making a nicer plate to cover the hole it passes through. Expensive! including wheel, colmn, and shift indicator about $1400.00.
Very easy, although I have not done the wiring yet.

$1400 for a column?!?! I think I'll pass, that's half of what I paid for the truck. It does look really nice, though.

Anyone have pics of FlareSide rear bumpers? Just curious to see what styles are out there?

the bumper on mine is a fleet side, cut down and chromed. Origional owner did this because he did not like the small flair side bumpers. I will keep it that way since it has been there since 1969. If I were going to change I would look for the chrome drop bumpers I had a nice one a 1984 Ch#vy stepside.
