forced air intake

forced air intake
has anyone made a forced air intake in their hood. i think it would be pretty cool, and i am thinking about doing it for my senior project.

Does a fully-functional '60s Shaker scoop setup qualify?

Installed a forced-air system would actually be much easier to do NOT putting it in the hood, but instead have the intake ports behind the grille or under the bumper.
Some musclecars have the air filter assembly sucking in air through the cowl vents, by cutting a hole in the firewall section just under the cowl vents and attaching the assembly there. However, I'd be leery about doing that....if your engine were to backfire through the carb, and you had your interior vents open, you're going to be VERY surprised when you have a fireball come shooting out the vents onto your...um... nether regions!

On fordmuscle, they hooked up a ram air setup on their 67 mustang project. Picked up a little power and MPG too. Worth a try. I've been thinking about doing it on my 71 short bed. It has a 460 and I'm sure it is getting hot under that hood. A little fresh air for the carb, couldn't hurt.
Also, just so you know. It is really a fresh air intake, not ram or forced. Ram and Forced, imply you are creating a positive pressure on the carb. As long as the engine is running, you are not going to creat a positive pressure. Way too much vacuum to overcome. Think of the engine sucking air at a -10 and the max pressure you are going to acheive with a ram air setup is a +3. The engine will still be sucking air, just at -7 (it won't have to work as hard to suck the air in)
Also, where keiths scoop comes out looks really cool, but isn't a high pressure area. He will be lucky to get +1 (see example above), but it will look cool. High pressure areas include the cowl area, and the front face of the truck. The hood top is actually a very low pressure area.

I'm going with the 70 style Mach 1 set up on my 69 Ford. Make it functional and regardless how much it helps it will look cool.
1969 Ford F-100. 302 4 barrel, C4 auto, 9in 3.50 open rear, headers, power steering, Turq/wht, Under restoration. In other words, in a million pieces!!!
