What years are we looking at here for those beds? I am going to keep my eye out for one. We have a few good slavage yards around here and several good ones in Joplin or thereabouts.

I think the last year for the lwb flareside was 79. The 80-up short flareside is the same as the 75-up box except for the squared off fenders. When they reissued the flareside in the mid seventies, they widened the box to match the wider 73-up frame so that will be basically the only issue involved in remounting to our 67-72 trucks. Length should be the same as the earlier boxes. Personally, I like the newer boxes as they match the cab width better than the 53-72 box.

Anyone made any progress or measurements? I am wanting to dispose of my old shortbox, but want to make sure this will work first.

For those that might have looked into this, how much are these beds worth? I found one in almost perfect condition for $450.00 and he might come down a bit...I have a couple pictures of it and it looks real nice.

That's what I wanted to do before I found the short bed that I have now, I think that bed looks very good on a bump side.

Later model step side on bumpside

Post by got_no_clue »

I think I missed something...
Are there any newer model long wheelbase step side beds that will fit on a '70?

If so, does anybody know what years will fit and what modifications would need to be made? Just different bolt holes due to the differnet frame widths?

Well I know for a fact that a dent bed will fit 'cause there's a guy near me that has a dent bed on a bump. The dent and the 80-96(8) F-series have the same wheelbases. From that I guess it is possible that the 80-up bed'll fit. No promises.

They quit making the long flareside in 79. The only mods should be to do with frame width.

I've seen these beds used on '80 thru '86 but only on the F150s.....if you had an F250/F350, you had to settle for a styleside box. These were on trucks with a 117" wheelbase, compared to our 115" wheelbase.

The flareside box was dropped altogether in '87 for a while. The flareside was reintroduced in mid-'92 and only available as a shortbox on 2WD trucks.

I don't want to contradict the master but flaresides were available on 4wd 92-96 trucks too.
And as an added note the box of a 53-79 are basically the same and you can bolt on the squared off fenders of the 80-86 model to them. So if you already have the flareside box, you can unbolt the rounded fenders and bolt on the squared off ones.
