Brake booster add on problems, PLEASE READ!!

Post by fonzf100s »

OK, I have a '69 stepside, new 302 motor, with an '82 four speed overdrive manual transmission. So last year I went to the salvage yard and got a booster from a '73 f100, not knowing there were different styles, it was the "lever" style, where the booster sits higher than the rod that goes in to the brake pedal (see this page http://www.fordification.com/my67-p24.htm)

Anyway, the booster was leaking a little, but I ran it for a year, the only thing is my pedal was way too close to the floor. Then I decided to get a new booster, and low and behold none of them seem to work!!!!! I did get a straight through bracket from the junkyard from a '70s f100, but a '69 Bendix rod is too short to reach the pedal when bolted to this bracket, and a '79 rod is also too short!!! What's the deal?? I thought all we had to do was find a '73-'79 bracket and booster???? Somebody please tell me why it won't work!!!!! I know the '68-72 brackets were shorter, sitting the booster closer to the firewall, but how are you all switching to these boosters and brackets and making your rod from the booster reach your brake pedal????

Thanks,

FONZ
