Cab Swap

Post by AustinTom »

I'm gonna be swappin cabs from my 68 to my 69, both F100s. Are there any precautions I need to take while doin this, I don't want to mess anything up.

don't drop the good one!

make sure everything is dis-connected before you start lifting the old cab. Yes the emergency brake must be disconnected! (dont ask how I know!)

are you going to take the front clip off first? or go complete?

The front clip is allready off, as are the doors. I'm not sure how heavy it is so I have a bunch of friends comin over on thursday after work to help. I was just wonderin if there was somethin I needed to do to keep it from denting or not goin on straight or anything like that

There's not much more to it than just picking it up and moving it but I do have a tip to make it easier on the people who are doing the grunt work. Get a couple of 2x4's and run em through the cab and lift on them. It stablizes the load and makes the lifting easier.

Where do you place the boards, under the cab, or secure them somehow inside it?

straight through the cab where the top of the doors would be if they were on. The center of gravity will be so low you won't need to secure them to it at all.
