Front bumper

Post by bluef250 »

What is the best way to straighten a front bumper? Or would it be better to buy new bumper? Or should I send bumper to chrome shop and let them straighten the bumper?

-probably would take a heavy press to straighten it out. I'd look for a reasonabley straight blade from the junkyard, I think earlier years are the same (64-72 according to LMC).

I repaired a friends by clamping a 2x4 on top and bottom and then laying it on my anvil and hitting it with my 16# sledge. It was not perfect but it was 100% better than before. It looked like some one just pulled it with a chain thrown over the top of the bumper. He said give it try as all he had to loose was a crappy bumper. He put it back on when we got done. Good luck with yours.

Yeah, I'd definitely try to find a good OEM bumper from a junkyard....the front bumpers are identical from '67 through '77, and even the 78-'79 bumper will bolt on, though it's a little different cosmetically. The aftermarket reproductions don't use OEM-equivalent steel, so they're thinner and not as strong.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
