new guy got the sickness

Post by 68f100ranger »

let me introduce myself, my name is Miles, im 19 and have always loved fords, my friend had a 67 for a while and i loved working on that truck with him.
well i accuired my first old ford truck on saturday, its a 68 f100 ranger. it has a 360 or 390, i have a spare 390 with a hotter cam, long tube headers and 4bbl manifold i plan on putting in it. it has the granny 4 speed in it, and a dana 60 with 3.54 locking rear gears. it is a dark green truck but the vin tag doesnt have a color code stamped into it. but the interior is listed as being black. it has power steering but is leaking a bit.

im here to learn and hopefully build one bad ass hauling rig that also looks good going down the road.

Welcome aboard! :wel:

Hey cool....I've got the same 5-lug Dana 60 with the same gears in my truck. Those rearends are fairly rare. If yours has power steering, it's probably the Bendix setup, used only for a few years because they were prone to overheating and leakage. Those aren't that common either. When a VIN tag doesn't have a color code, that means it was a special-order color, not part of the normal offerings for that year.

Post some pics when you can. :D

it doesnt have the bendix steering box it has the ford style, i was wondering what one my truck had beacuse the parts store has more than 1 for power steering, but i found the article on puting power steering on your truck on this web site and i discovered that i do have the better ford style. not sure if it is origional but everything is there. i will post pictures as soon as i can, i dont have a digital camera only my camera phone, and my friends digital camera is broken. so as soon as i can i will post pictures.

Welcome Aboard, Good Luck with your ride. Most the guy's your age are building p.o.s. ricers. Ah, there's nothing better than cruising on the weekends in my buddy's recently built 460 converted 68 Ranger and waxing the hell out of those little punks. Only a couple years ago in my teens there was nothing but V-8's running around, now if you do see one it's something fairly new. Old School Rocks!! So much respect for taking on something more challenging, but much more rewarding.

Nice to see that the younger generation also like the old truck. I thought they all like the Neons, and Jap crapola. There is hope yet.
