Mercury Tailgate

Post by gramsay »

I have a 1967 mercury 1/2 ton and I have needed to replace the tailgate on it for a long time and I finally found one but it is from a 1964-1966, will it fit on my 67?

The '64-'66 tailgate WILL interchange with the '67-'72 trucks and the body lines will be correct. However, there are very slight differences in the letters on the back. The '64-'66 letters are of a sans-serif style font, whereas the '67-'72 letters are of serif font. If you can live with that you'll be fine, unless you're going with a 100-point concourse restoration. See the comparison pics at the following link:

I think the Mercury letters are all the same '64 - '68. There is a slight difference in the crease above the letters but not enough to notice.

Now that I didn't know....thanks for clearing that up, Barry. I'll have to add that info to the trim page.

Good point, Barry. All the 67-72 Ford and Merc tailgates had that extruded bar across the top as opposed to the slight lip on the previous years.
