What color to paint the rims?

Post by two-bit »

Hey ya'll,
Finally finished the brakes on my '72 F-350. Proceeded out to the boneyard this AM. Just about sweat off certain parts of my anatomy that i've become rather fond of.
Came home with a full set of rims for the truck and 6 tires. (Split rims are HISTORY!!!!) :woohoo: Scored a set of 10ply E load range Firestone Steeltex tires from a 90's F-450. Real square drives with almost fresh steers.(still have the little nubies on 'em). :D :D :D
Question is: What color do i paint the rims?
Four of them are white, and two are gray.
Cab of the truck is Forest Green, and i've painted the Brake drums(F/R) in Rustoleum gloss black.
I was thinking white, but its such a pain to keep clean. Maybe put flat black on the rims with the gloss black drums to offset? Silver? Gray? :hmm:

What do you think?

Original Split Rims were Black, Safety Rims (Direct early replacement rims when Ford killed the split rims) were white. Gray rims came with slotted Wheel stud holes and were from Mid 70s to 90s. The grey slotted hole rims require the Swivel nut and not using Swivel nuts on my 69 F-350 requires 250ftlbs of torque to keep the standard lug nuts from backing off. I am still hunting for two more white rims.

Hey Kid,
The two gray rims i got a hold of are the correct style. They came off of a Mopar based camper home. '75 i belive. Someone painted them to match the trim on the camper home.
Bring your tape measure with you, and watchout for the 16.5 BUDD rims.
I know where there is a beautiful set of 16.5 BUDD rims. Nobody wants them, and they will prolly become fireplace rings before to long.
I know white was the factory color, but like i said before, its a PITA to keep clean, and boring. I'm leaning towards gray, but i need some more opinions.
Good luck finding two more rims.

LOL yep Dog I mean Dodge rims If they are for the same rear axle ie. Dana 44. 60 or 70 they interchange with no problem as the center hole matches the axle not the Maker of the vehicle.

But GM or Chevy Dana Rims will not intterchange as GM had special hubs made with a slightly small registation hole.

I like the satin black with the same green as the body as a pine strip idea. My :2cents: :dk:
