I currently have that right now... and let me tell you if you just use Black Primer with no sealer it will fade to grey. If you want the rat rod look go with a good flat black paint, not primer. Not sure if primer sealer will make black primer shiny or not.

If you're considering this, definitely take the time to read this thread over at HotRodders.com, where there's a very lengthy thread about the use of John Deere Blitz Black instead of actual primer. It'll give you the flat (or semi-flat) look but still give you some protection from the elements:

Clear will make it shinny. My father in-law painted his '56 rattle can grey. He cleared it now it looks like an expensive paint-job with red pearl flames on the tilt nose. Here is a look before the yellow pinstriping around the flames.

I have always like the Rat Ride look, but never thought much on it due to the fading of the color or chalkyness of it. But nothing like flat back and some red wheels to really set one apart from another.

You might check into Caterpillar's black polyurea paint... goes on really easy...VERY VERY tough... and gives that flat/satin black look with protection from the elements....and the last time I bought some, it was about $25 a gallon!

If youre spray-bombing it, Duplicolor Satin Black engine enamel would look about right. Cheapest paintjob around. Ten or 12 cans would get your cab pretty well covered and its around $5 can.
