seam sealer

Post by dotcentral »

What are you all using for seam sealer? A friend has recomended something with a name called Vulkem (something like that). Apparently it is a polyurethane product, holds up well to water, stays somewhat flexible, etc.

Anyone else got some recomendations? Prefer something readily available.

This is what I'm using from Eastwood. It's available in black or gray...I got the black.

Keith,

how is it working for you? Could this be used on the seams down the side of the bed?

Well, I haven't actually started applying it yet, I wanted to wait on the interior until it was all painted, and then apply the sealer over the paint. It'll be covered by carpet anyway, so I'm not too worried about appearance.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work in the bed seam, although it might be a PIA to apply. However, I also got some of Eastwoods seam filler in a tube, which dispenses with a standard caulking gun. That's what I was going to use on the bed seams (before I changed my mind and decided to weld them up instead). The tube-type would be easier to apply in that seam, and then you'd just run your finger down the seam to smooth it out.

I was sort of hoping for a good product that I could get at an autobody supply, or maybe NAPA.

Im going to use this. Available at the hardware store for under $4. Remains flexible. "Paintable after 7 days". "Butyl-Flex rubber sealant".
