Removing manual steering box...question

Post by Vermonter 67 »

OK, so laugh and get it over with...but cannot get the pitman arm off of the ti rod. I know that it should just be a 'bolt it on' scenario going from manual to power steering, and so far so good. Except this one thing.

Does anyone have a suggestion for removing it in a certain order, or a c pin I'm not aware of?

Ok...stop laughing now....no really, stop...

Thanks!

Once the tie-rod's castle nut is tightened down, the TRE gets wedged in pretty good, and will either require a pickle fork to remove it

...or (my preference) a tie-rod separator. I keep one of these in my toolbox at all times, especially when hitting the salvage yard. Makes a quick 20-second job of separating those.

Get the puller as Keith has shown in the second picture. The only problem is it's sometimes hard to "hook" the end. I have both the pickle fork, but prefer the latter.

Thank for the tip. Managed to get it seperated, but the TRE is pretty corroded. It that an easy fix?

thanks
