72 Camper special teardown finds

Post by billabongo »

As I have begun my teardown of my 72 f250 camper special, I am trying to find as much as I can about what *should* be on the truck, or a possible option.

For starters my 72 has Dual shocks on both front wheels. I don't recall ever seeing this on 67-72.. I can't find a part number on the stuff except for the ibeams.. SO if anyone knows what D2TA-8-BB is let me know.. Just want to verify if this is part of the original truck. It all looks 100% factory.

Also in my cab, is a large aluminum panel that hung below the Key bezel, it has a large toggle switch, and a large white rocker switch. At first I thought this was some addon that was long since disabled. But after removing the panel I discovered that they are FORD parts.. and a FORD harness plugs into it and seems to part of my underdash harness, as it is loomed together by original shrink tape. Anyone know what this is?

Wonder if that is trailer brakes or a battery tie in toggle to get your second battry into the charginmg loop?

or a pump to get the sewage out of the campers hold? Anything in the back of the truck by the bumper or on/in the bumper besides trailer wiring and tag lights?

Looks like someone made a bigger bracket and remounted your stock fuel tank selector switch and added a rocker switch too, were there wires to the rocker?

I don't see the dual shocks.

dual shocks, according to the old-timers, drastically cut down on the front tires tendency to 'cup'. Even if that isn't stock, you might want to leave them on there, just select shocks that are designed for a dual-shock application so that they are not too stiff.

as for the switches, I agree that the silver one probably is for the fuel guage selector. Do you have dual tanks, and do they both have sending units? as for the rocker switch, since its not hooked up, I bet it's a spare for a non-mod by a P.O.

Hmm good possibility, My truck does not seem to have the dual battery option.. although mabey there was one during its life, but I find no obvious clues as to anything extra in the engine compartment.

The only thing down on the bumper is a trailer hookup. Odd.

Now the truck DOES have dual tanks, it has the one on the drivers side frame behind the frame rail, complete with rock gaurd, and a in cab model. There is the selector valve on the floorboard next to the driver.

Now that you mention it, my dash seems to be missing the fuel selector nob, but there is a hole unused.. hmmmm

Can someone snap a picture of where the fuel tank selector switch should be located on the dash?

As for the large white toggle switch also on the panel it did have wires but i disconnected them.

Also of note is on the right side of the colum on the dash is a big Warning sticker that says turn of cargo light before driving. Never saw it before, thought it was cool.

I am still in the process of yanking bunch of junk from the truck, so i will add more finds as i go.

I think the best find yet was a football size hole in the front of the drivers inner fender, almost where the spare battery would be..

It looks exactly like my fuel selector switch remounted on a new plate in tandem with a rocker switch for ?
