Glue on the cowl seal?
Greetings,
I installed a new cowl seal from NPD. It just clips on?
It just doesnt seem to fit snugly against the fireall and when my hood closes it catches on it and tries to rip the clips out instead of sealing against it. Should I glue it on? Maybe my hood is adjusted wrong and Im supposed to have a wider gap back there?

re: Glue on the cowl seal?
None of my clips lined up with the holes. I made new holes and used push style "christmas tree" retainers. I never could get the 3/M glue to work because the rubber seal was too hard.

re: Glue on the cowl seal?
I just got one from LMC Truck and the clips went right in. I have the same problem, after being crushed in a plastic bag for who knows how long, there is about 2 or 3 sections between clips that won't stay flat to the cowl. I was told to use weather stripping glue. I have door stripping to install so I haven't broken out the seal glue yet. Maybe this weekend I'll get a chance and I'll post my results. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

71 LONG BED,
Carefull with that adhesive. That stuff gets all over everything. What kind did you get?
Do post some pix of your install. I would like to see them.

I don't remember what brand it is, my father in-law gave me what he had left. I hear that stuff is like dog s**t or never seize, once you step in it it gets EVERYWHERE!
I'll let you know how it works.

re: Glue on the cowl seal?
I was in another thread here and found this pic of a 70 F100 with only 358 original miles. http://www.fordification.com/images/70explorer/19.jpg
Now if this is correct, then I have been trying to put my cowl seal on upside down.
That would explain why my hood kept catching on it.

Believe it or not, that cowl lacing is on upside down.

re: Glue on the cowl seal?
So I did NOT put mine on upside down?
How does a truck with only 358 miles on it wind up with the lacing on upside down.
I looked at doing it that way but it just looked so wrong to me. Looked like it would hold water rather than repel it. Thats why I put mine on the other way.

re: Glue on the cowl seal?
We discussed it, and came to the conclusion that although it may have only had 358 original miles, many items were still replaced or reconditioned...including the cowl seal.
